I have created a few small applications for my own use with Visual Studio Express 2012. They were made to run on my laptop with Windows 7, 64bit core. I am wondering if I get a tablet, whether they can just be copied to it and run. I suspect that answer is no because I expect to need VS 2012 and .NET 4.5 installed on the tablet and then compile the apps (if that is even possible). The full blown development environment is a lot of overhead just for a couple little applications.
I expect that a runtime version of the necessary modules is what I would need to make this happen, and for that I expect I would have to pony up the funds to get one of the professional versions of Visual Studio. This is not unreasonable except that I have no revenue stream to cover the cost of the professional level software and am not inclined to make a profession of developing applications. I do programming mostly to keep my grey matter working.
