RDC shrunk too small on my new Dell XPS 12 convertible ultrabook Windows 8 Pro

Help! I have just bought this unit and all in all am very happy. BUT! My primary use for the unit is to log into my work server via RDC, but apparently due to the HD 1980x1080 res when i sign into RDC the appearance of all the server's icons and programs are tiny and I cannot make them larger either via the server nor the XPS 12... I rang Dell and they spent a few hours on it but couldn't resolve it so they are offering a full refund. I have a friend who owns a Samsung ATIV XE700T1C-A02AU with the 11.6 inch HD screen with same default 1980x1080 res, and when they sign into my server via RDC get the same tiny icons issue, but they can adjust their Samsung res to 1366x768 to resolve this. When i change the res on my XPS to 1366x768 it shrinks either my XPS screen available viewing space (and creates a big black border around it) or if i make that adjustment on the RDC display settings before logging in it makes the RDC screen only fill 2/3rds of my XPS screen...which isn't what happens on the Samsung... my techy friend thinks maybe it's a driver issue on the Dell which wouldn't be easy to resolve, or else a video card issue on the old Server 2003 but that isn't easy to fix and will be an issue going forward if it can't be fixed by adjusting the display res on the XPS.

I want to keep the unit as i like the extra size of screen, great keyboard, and 256GB SSD HD but only if I can find a way to resolve this issue. Only other bummer is the not-so-awesome battery life and sometimes sticky touchpad left./right buttons... but i will live with that if anyone can help with the RDC res issues??? I need to tell Dell in 24hrs if I'm keeping the unit or not so any assistance in that timeframe would be greatly appreciated!!!
