Efficient method to move the backup files between Windows Servers

Hi,

I am about to move a huge SQL Server backup file around 400 Gigs between windows servers as a part of a Migration Project.

Due to frequent network drops the moving process between these 2 windows servers were failed after running 1 or 2 hours.

Even, I tried the split backup and tried to move between those servers, but again there attempts are failed due to the network connection drops.

I checked with the network team that the network connections are Gigabyte connections.

I refer the thread at where one of the MVP is suggesting to try XCOPY, and there is an another suggestion to try ROBOCOPY.

http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/en-us/sqldatabaseengine/thread/61E98217-0323-47FF-8FD0-321A7CF7A4EB

Question:

1. If we use the XCOPY to move a backup file from the production server, what will be the performance impact with respect to critical resources like CPU, Memory, IO and Network ?

2. There is one plan to use ArcServe backup solution and it is in hold to analysis other best method to expedite the migration.

3. Apart from these solutions, we (DBAs) planned to configure Log Shipping between these 2 servers, the questions in this point is, (a) if we configure the LS to copy the entire 400 Gigs of database using LS, what will be performance impact on the source production server ? (b) Somehow after moving the full backup to the new server and restoring it there and then configuring the LS, in this method what will be the performance impact on the source production server ?

Thanks in advance for throwing some ideas/suggestions in this regard.
